The Simple Things In Life Can Make The Difference

Now that we are adults, we all are busy doing our own things and never find time to do things for ourselves. Let's face it, we work hard all day, everyday- whether it be slaving away in a 2 hour lecture at school, or the normal, yet tiring 9-5 or even better, the  crazy 12 hr 5 days on 5 days off shift work. It's kinda sad to see but we work to live, but in order to live life... we have to enjoy. Now, this doesn't necessarily mean that we go out and binge drink, hit the clubs and spend an obscene amount of money, wake up with an empty wallet, missing I.D and a huge headache- some of us, really dont have the time or energy to do that every weekend.

I came across this list... its simple! I mean, thats how we want our lives to be, right? So take time read this and try to apply 1 or 2 of these to your daily routine. Who knows... maybe something as little and simple as smiling at someone you pass by on the way to work.. can not only make their day, but make yours, too.

Simple Pleasures. Once something becomes familiar, we stop paying attention to it - even if it's pleasurable. Ever had a piece of chocolate that tasted gorgeous, but then you didn't notice the rest of the bar disappearing down your throat? Start making a note of the simple things that bring you pleasure as you notice them. This way, you heighten the experience and focus on the positive feelings they inspire.

Random Kindness. Positive psychologists have found that one of the most effective strategies to lift people from depression is for them to help others. As social beings, we're hardwired to get a reward of feelgood hormones in return for a positive act towards others. It's easy to forget this in the day-to-day chaos of life, but if you set yourself the goal of performing an act of random kindness for the benefit of a stranger, it will leave you feeling better about yourself for hours.

Count chimneys. It sounds odd, but it's harder to feel unhappy while you're looking up. Obviously, don't do this when there's a danger you could fall down a manhole, but otherwise give yourself an incentive to look up. There's a reason for the saying "you're looking down" when someone seems unhappy. Try it - and things will really look up.

Three Gifts. At the end of each day, just before bed, look back and bring to mind three good things that happened that day. They don't have to be big things - just hearing a bird sing or a chat with a friend. Then write them down. This primes your brain to look for the positives each day, knowing you'll be looking for them in the evening. By turning towards the positives, it diminishes your attention on the negatives.

Do it Today. Procrastination reduces our sense of well-being, while taking action increases our feelings of being in control. The more control we feel we have in our life, the more positive we feel about it. Don't say "that needs doing", say "I'm doing it!"

Share a Smile. Happiness reflects back on us. The smile might come from a moment of humour, or it could just be from something shared. Getting people to smile is really easy - but look around you and notice people not doing it. Researchers have found that our expressions cause us to feel the way we look - so smiling increases our happiness whatever our prevailing mood, and sharing our smile makes it even stronger.

Three Thank-yous. Find three situations that you can say thank you for. Not just everyday pleasantries of "please" and "thank you", but opportunities to express real gratitude for things that people do for you. Take a moment, make eye contact if they are present and thank them. It's called a positive stroke. We like getting them and we like giving them.

Positive consumerism. Much is made of retail therapy, but it's often a short-lived fix. When you're next looking for a present for somebody, buy them something that would give them an experience, rather than just an object. It's even better if it's a shared experience. Presents will wear out, but a memory can last a lifetime.

Give - without expecting to receive. It doesn't matter what you give - your time, your money, your attention - but see how much better you feel when you simply look for opportunities to give to people, without wanting anything back. Wheter in your personal or professional life, it can transform the way people see you, and how you feel about yourself. Voluntarily serving others is a proven way of improving your well-being.

Give yourself time. We're often too busy to look after ourselves properly, but most people feel a real boots by focusing on what pleases them. Set aside 30 minutes, at least once a week, when everyone else comes second (pretend you're a teenager) and you focus on something that brings you pleasure. Too much pursuit of pleasure soon brings diminishing returns, but get the balance right and it will a precious part of a happy life.

Dear Summer 2010 . . . I'm gonna miss you! Part I

Yet another rainy day in Vancouver, Labor day wasn't the sunny one as it was the year before. I honestly cannot believe that this summer has flew by so quickly. I actually took the day to myself this morning to run errands downtown and as I was walking down Granville street downtown, I recapped my summer this year and needless to say... It had to be one of the most memorable summers I've had. Summer 2009 was just as amazing, but for some reason, this summer topped it off.
It was quite the eventful one of all summers, both good and bad, I still wouldn't have had it any other way.
So let's recap exactly how it went.

My summer started early, and it all started with my birthday in April of this year. I decided that because I entered my mid-twenties this year that I would do something big... and where else would you do something big but in Vegas. So, I had Kim come with me and I had such a blast. I did have a birthday thing here too, invited 25 of my closest friends to have dinner at Circa Lounge- From what i could remember... I had fun until the 20 some-odd shots caught up to me and I was escorted out by 10pm and did even make it to the club. Thank you friends for taking good care of me or else i would have probably died from choking on my own puke :)
Vegas was so much fun. Kim and I left the weekend after my actual birthday and met up with my lovely friends from Calgary and SanFran.

Jp, Kim and I were waiting on Albert to come to mine and Kim's hotel room  figure somewhere to eat... But I think we went and ate at Serendipity at Caesars Palace. Waited a good 30 mins in the sun to get our seats and we ordered some good brunch food. JP wanted french toast, so he ordered the "Devils Breakfast" and ended up with ... well this

Yeah the "Devil's Breakfast" said " French Loaf", but we didnt anticipate it literally being a actual loaf. He only managed to eat a small corner of it- even our waitress gave him shit for not even attempting to eat it.  You kinda had to be there for his reaction when it got to the table. Albert, Kim and I were laughing at him for a good while.

We had only stayed there from Friday to Monday so it was so nice to spend my 25th with a group of great people!!

" San Fran Meet Canada"
this was just some of the homies from Frisco that came out for my birthday - Thank you all!

The next big trip for me was my annual California trip. My sister resides there so I make sure that I go there to visit her and my friends that I have there. I consider Cali to be my second home, I mean... I go there every year, even sometimes 2-3 times in one year. What can I say?? The hot sun, beaches, beautiful people, great eats and amazing shopping- who wouldn't want to go. I actually got to go twice this summer. Once in June and once in August. Although the August trip wasn't really planned and just kinda happened, I still managed to get some personal downtime and spent lots of time with family and friends. O.C Fair- chili cheese fries, funnelcake, deep fried oreos.. Yup.. I felt like such a fat ass when I got back home!

In June I left Vancouver for 2 weeks, spent my 1st week in San Fran- it was my 1st time ever being there in Northern California and I got some awesome Frisco hospitality from good buds Boogie and Junior. Boogie and his family let me stay with them and I also got to stay with Junior at his place in Daily City.
Frisco- reminded me so much of Vancouver, the " Chill and laxed" kinda vibe was what really got me. Everyone was hella friendly. Also, our weather was very similar- Although, Vancouver rains a lot, it still had that chilly wind that reminded me so much of home.

I was so amazed at how fast people drove down there. Freeways were HUGE and everyone cuts eachother off and it was the norm. Yeah, I dont know.. thats just how it works there.

1st night I got there, Boogie and I met up with Junior, Jeremiah, and Jenn on Haight Street. They took me to some dope food joint called " Cha Cha Cha's and Jenn ordered some good food that we all inhaled! Sangria by the pitcher and good company...  Welcoming Committee- Thank you!
After eating.. we walked down the street to a hooka bar and drank some more and had smoked some good flavored tobacco.

The Next morning, Boogie took me to a cute little joint called " Black Bear Diner"
I had my corned-beef hash - YUM!!!

One of the nights, Junior took Boogie and I took this spot called "Turtle Hill"- this picture doesn't do justice, but this was one of the highest points in the city. It wasnt a place where everyone knew about but just the city locals know. The carpet of lights was breath-taking AND... hahah this would have made a really good make-out spot for this hormonal teenagers.

Boogie and Junior took me to Fisherman's Warf and spare of the moment kinda thing, Junior got all 3 of us tickets to go on a boat cruise around the bay.. underneath the Golden Gate bridge and past Alcatraz. Aside from the bay water splashing me in the face- it was fun!

After the cruise we walked over to Pier 32 where the famous sea lions chilled out- it was pretty smelly, but I've never seen so many seals try to hump each other.. no, forreal!

I took this pretty sick shot on the way back from the Warf towards the cable cars station... look in the arch of the structure... You can see the boat in the distance.

So Ending of PART I. I have So much more videos and pictures to upload so stay tuned... continuation ( part II) will be posted this week.
